As millions of U.S. students and teachers head back to class, schools are preparing for the return of the H1N1 Swine Flu strain, which first appeared last April in the USA. But seasonal flu also is making its annual return this fall - a combination that is creating uncertainty and anxiety as medical personnel prepare for both strains. This issue has taken on new urgency with a recent report from the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology that warned that up to half the U.S. population could be infected by swine flu. Many school systems are implementing ways to quickly identify infection patterns in daily absentee reports, and federal officials have advised systems to come up with alternate ways to deliver lessons to infected students forced to stay at home. NLC TV is producing this important town hall meeting webcast to discuss best practices in dealing with this challenge and how the cities, the health departments, the school boards and the schools can work together in finding real solutions. Experts are being assembled for this live webcast and cities and school officials are encouraged to email their questions prior to and during the event.
