The National League of Cities, together with the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle (TDA), is pleased to offer the archived webcast of a new Leadership Academy on Local Economic Competitiveness in a Global Era. The event will brought together teams of local elected officials, staff, and key stakeholders with experts from all levels of government, academic, and business sectors to discuss critical opportunities and challenges of foreign direct investment and trade promotion and to showcase promising practices from cities and regions across the country.
As part of the event, NLC partnered with the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Treasury to host a delegation of approximately 90 Chinese leaders, including mayors and business executives from Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xian, Tiazhou (in Jiangsu province), and Weifang (in Shandong province).
U.S. local officials had the opportunity, in a session facilitated by the Department of Commerce, to directly engage about 15 foreign businesses seeking job-creating investment opportunities in U.S. cities. Industries represented included high-tech R&D, pharmaceuticals, aviation and space, auto manufacturing, high-speed transport/expressways, and several others.
